I finally got KMplayer to play DVD’s.
Only took a year, ahhhh. So happy!
This is a song about dating someone who’s dating you and everything’s fantastic until you find out that they are sleeping with a bunch of other people. This is a song about sharing. Letting go of the me.
“Lost Myself In Search of You” by Matt Nathanson
I was holding you so tight and you were holding me
So wrapped up in the moment, I was feeling such security
And the first few weeks felt just like heaven,
But we never really seemed to get that high
And now I sit here laughing at the time that passed me by
It’s times, times like these, when I’m down on my knees begging:
Please don’t go.
And as you slipped away, I couldn’t admit that we were through
And as you slipped away,
I found I lost myself in search of you.
Found I lost myself in search of you, search of you
I was holding you tight and you were holding him
And him, and him, and him, and him, and her.
Now the only time I can hold you is in my mind
But that never seemed to fill me up inside
Oh and yes, I felt lonely and yes, I felt a need
And you seemed to feel it necessary to make me see
That I was wrong and you were right
And that all my attempts were in vain
But I was pretty sure you’d turn around and want me back again
And as you slipped away, I couldn’t admit that we were through
And as you slipped away,
I found I lost myself in search of you
I found I lost myself in search of you, search of you
Always in search of you
I was holding you so tightly when you needed help
I guess insecurities catch up to you when you’re stupid and you lie and you’re a whore
But I never lied when I told you all that you could be
But it was no use, cause you slept with everybody else but me
And I, I was holding you tight,
I was holding you so tight and I never, ever, ever let you go
But you slipped away
I couldn’t admit that we were through
As you slipped away, I found I lost myself in search of you
And you slipped away, I couldn’t admit that we were through
And as you slipped, I found I lost myself in search of you
You know, I found I lost myself.
To pick a song that makes me laugh, I had to find an artist who made me laugh. Easy. Matt Nathanson will forever make me laugh so hard that I feel I’m gonna pee my pants if I don’t stop. It’s a love affair that started one beautiful, hot morning in April my freshman year of college in Riverview Park at Marist College on the iconic Hudson river.
It was time for the yearly SPC (Student Programming Council) Spring Concert. The lineup was Lifehouse with Matt Nathanson and Belikos as the openers. I had no idea who Matt or Belikos was, but Lifehouse was good and being an overly excited freshman, I would’ve gone anyway lol. The setup was on the river and it was GORGEOUS. Belikos went on and they were okay. Nothing all that special but not bad. Then Matt Nathanson came on. A lot of people seemed to know who he was but I had no clue. I cheered anyway. But then he opened his mouth and cracked joke after joke and played good song after good song and I was hooked. He was wildly inappropriate - saying things like “I’ve always wanted to write a song people could fuck to” and then playing “Come On Get Higher” (a song with lyrics like “so come on get higher, loosen my lips, faith and desire, the swing of your hips, just pull me down hard and drown me in love”). Incidentally, it really is a good song to do it to. Anyway, I became a huge fan and have followed him ever since.
It happened that one day I had a bad day at work. I came home and I didn’t want to know about anything but my iTunes and my bed. It was a mark of my awful mood that nothing in my iTunes seemed to be to my liking. I decided to try out my iHeartRadio app on my iPhone. I put it to the Civil Wars station since they typically have a calming effect on me and pressed play. The first song that showed up on the shuffle was a live version of “Lost myself in search of you” by Matt Nathanson. I’d heard the song before and it was whatever. I was getting ready to press the skip button but then I heard his live intro and I was cracking up just like the first time. Once again, he’d made me laugh so hard, I thought my ribs would crack from the laughter.
And so I leave you with the hilarity that is Matt Nathanson. Enjoy =)
“Keep Me” by Lucy Schwartz
Let’s take all these stones
Build them up tall
And make it a home
We’ll lay down our love
And whatever comes
We’ll make it our own
When everything’s moving
I want you for always, I want you to stay
If others are fading
I want you for always to keep it this way
Keep, keep me
Come, let’s live like thieves
Stealing our time
As much as we need
Live, but not like the rest
Not tied to our desk
‘Cause that’s the way it should be
The light of the morning
The peace in your silence, the touch of your skin
The way that you see me
Straight through the bones like you’re looking in
Keep, keep me
How do I, how do I, how do I
How do I live without
How do I, how do I, how do I
How do I live without
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep, keep me
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep me
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep me
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep
The light of the morning
The peace in your silence, the touch of your skin
The way that you see me
Straight through the bones like you’re looking in
The song I chose for this post came much more easily to mind as it is the song I usually go to sleep to since it helps me shh all the crap in my head. There’s something about the simple melody that gets me - the contrasting thump between the piano and drum, to the light touch on the cymbals - harsh and mellow. I love the ethereal tone of her voice and the intonation she gives her words. And the lyrics themselves, ugh, always remind me of what’s important - especially on days like today when the karmic imbalance of the world threatens to break me down.
“Keep Me” by Lucy Schwartz reminds me that all I need to face whatever comes, is love. Love for my family. Love for my friends. Love for the beautiful gift that is my wonderfully understanding boyfriend. And of course, love for myself and my future.
“The Rainbow Connection” by Kermit the Frog (Written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher)
Why are there so many songs about rainbows?
And what’s on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we’ve been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they’re wrong - wait and see.
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers, and me.
Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
and someone believed it,
and look what it’s done so far.
What’s so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers, and me.
All of us under its spell,
we know that it’s probably magic…
Have you been half asleep
and have you heard voices?
I’ve heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same.
I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it.
It’s something that I’m supposed to be.
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers, and me.
This one took me awhile to figure out because so many songs make me happy - whether they make me bounce around in my pj’s, singing into a hairbrush, taylor-swift style, or they put a smile on my face that lasts the rest of the day. I couldn’t think of one off the top of my head so I put my iTunes on shuffle and the song that came up was absolutely perfect: ”The Rainbow Connection” by Kermit the Frog.
I absolutely LOVE the muppets. Kermie has forever been my favorite but Fozzie, Ms. Piggy, Beeker, Gonzo and Animal are amazeballs too. This song is so melodic and the lyrics are so sweet that it can’t help but make you feel a little bit better about the world.
So, with that, I leave you with a video of the song and I hope it leaves you with a smile on your face too =)
So this isn’t my first tumblr. I had another one before and I had to delete it because somehow it got hacked and spam was errywhere and it sucked cause I spent so much time on it but whatever. Then I tried to start it again and I quickly found that with all the drama going on in my life at the time, it was impossible for me to actually follow up. But now I’m happy to say that I have managed to push aside all the, well, crap, and start again. Now, I could do a whole intro post all over again, but at this point, i’m kind of bored with the idea. This time, I’ll do a 30 day song challenge. I chose something music related because honestly, that’s the quickest and best way for me to reintroduce myself. My music choices will tell you more about me, I think, than I ever could and frankly, there’s nothing I love more than music so this should be a breeze. However, it is late and I need my sleep after working the hours that I have. BUT I will leave you with the challenge I’ll be doing and get right on it manana. Until then, sweet dreams everyone!
